The scent of grandmas kitchen: Trying out ‘Rice Mate’

I really thought this conditioner thing has ended with growing chicken, hair and fabric, but I was amazed knowing there’s another one added on the list – it’s called rice conditioner.

Yeah, the commercial ad for this product is now crawling on television, you probably have seen it and had made judgments by now.  I scored six sachets of this about a week ago, I got curious after reading and seeing it displayed prominently, the marketing people behind this product really did a good job, you really got me there, curiosity.

The label looks inviting and convincing so I carted it out.

It comes in 5g sachet and in white grainy texture, you can already sniff in the rice aroma upon opening the sachet, using it is effortless just mix it on the last water before setting your rice cooker or ‘kaldero’ to cook. Anybody who had eaten rice I guess had their olfactory system conditioned and memorized already the aroma of a freshly cooked rice, but having ‘Rice Mate’ on your rice overstated that scent – it’s like telling you ‘hey, this is how a freshly cooked rice smelled like’. In cases where it’s necessary to whiten the rice I actually use vinegar – but with this product, you can already let go of that simple cooking remedy though effective. Rice Mate really lived up to its promise, tamang lambot – good alternative to buying expensive Japanese Rice, bagong ani ang bango at lasa – Indeed, it is. May Iodine at Vitamin A – Knorr only knows, I’m keeping their words.

But seriously, it’s enough cooking rice grown with fertilizer, herbicides, and pesticides – organic ones are expensive you know, it’s enough I’ve tried ‘Rice Mate’ out of dang curiosity, I’ve too much artificial stuff I’ve packed in my body.

But if you’ve forgotten how it was like before, those days when you were young  in your mom’s or grandma’s kitchen – try using ‘Rice Mate’ – the exaggeration of scent will somehow let travel down memory lane.

I wonder what’s up next on my grocery shelf.
