No it is not a joke or a prank; there are plastic surgery apps in the market place. They are a fast growing trend with everyone from cosmetic surgeons to teenagers. With the popularity of makeover and medical makeover reality shows, it is no wonder these apps are taking off so fast. One guess where the very first app of this kind showed up originally; yes, the iPhone. From there, consumers of plastic surgery apps created such demand now there are available everywhere. Some critics ask why would anyone want this and that it could lead to a poor body image. Supporters simply say why not, they are just fun entertainment.
Dr. David Shafer launched the first plastic surgery app to the market for the iPhone. The Manhattan, NY based Doctor’s app, The Shafer Plastic Surgery App, offers over 1,000 questions with the answers on the subject. There are Q & A’s on things like butt lift, facelift, and more. This app is for those interested in learning to become a more informed patient. Users can ask direct questions to Dr. Shafer as well, which will in turn be added into the database helping the app grow in its cache of information, all for around three dollars.
Although all the different cell and smartphone manufactures have versions of plastic surgery apps, it appears the iPhone has the largest selection and are most often downloaded for this phone. The top three iPhone plastic surgery apps are as follows:
1. Cosmetic Plastic Surgery – This app gives users contact and ranking information to a database of U.S. board certified plastic surgeons. Also, this app is supported by The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons.
2. BodyPlastika – This app incorporates email and social media. Users can manipulate their face and/or body to see how it would look after procedures like liposuction, facelift, breast lifts, and more. They can then share them with family and friends.
3. The Plastic Show – This app shows real cosmetic surgery patients’ before and after photos, YouTube videos and other information. It allows anyone thinking about having a procedure done make a decision based on others experiences. This can be a big help for those on the fence.
Even though there is no news of celebrities having any of these on their phones, there are many of these apps that have celebrities in them. There are several plastic surgery apps where the user can view before and after images and/or celebrities can be manipulated with nose jobs, breast lifts, and such.
These types of apps can be extremely useful, not just for potential and actual plastic surgery patients, but to cosmetic surgeons as well. They allow patients and non-patients to gain a wealth of information on the treatments and/or procedures before ever stepping foot in a doctor’s office. After using the apps, and decide to make an appointment, they arrive much more informed and confident about their decision. Surgeons benefit from these apps by sharing information and learning about new and innovative techniques, as well as promote and expand their practice depending on the app.
